Project Description

The Ministry of Railways (MoR) is planning to construct the Chennai-Bangalore-Coimbatore-Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram High Speed Rail Corridor project that runs from Chennai in Tamil Nadu to Ernakulam in Kerala through Bangalore, Coimbatore and Thiruvananthapuram in India.

The project involves the construction of an 850km high speed rail link capable of trains running at 350kmph.

The project includes the construction of new railway stations, signaling units, interchange sections, passage ways and other related infrastructural facilities and the laying of rail tracks.

The project is planned to be implemented with Public Private Partnership (PPP) in order to reduce the timeline and cost variations.

Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS) and Oriental Consultants were appointed as the study consultants.

In February 2016, feasibility studies were completed.
